I have been using Cronometer for about a year. I used my previous log religiously, once going 400 days without missing (that is, logging food is not a pipe dream for me). I switched to Cronometer because of its efficient food logging process.

While I have found that always logging on the same day is helpful—as food consumption memory fades amazingly quickly—I sometimes finish up the previous day's dinner or snacks while starting the next day. I cannot say how frequently I do that but it is fairly common.

Thus I am scratching my head to determine the value of the Mark Day Complete button.

I have never marked a day complete in the year+ I've been using Cronometer. Should I?

Hi,

Been a happy Cronometer Gold user for a few months now. One thing I've run into:

Lots of bigger restaurants include their nutrition information online. My approach so far, for when it's not already in the database, is to create custom foods for whatever I had that day.

But I can't share those out for future users, because there's no bar code or even really a Nutrition Facts label. They're usually in some table/grid pdf, exported from something like excel.

Is there any way for us to submit these restaurant foods, provided we have a link to the "evidence" on their site? I don't imaging automating the submissions of all the foods in a pdf would be easy.

Here are some examples:
https://media.yardhouse.com/images/site/ext/nutrition/yard-house-nutrition.pdf
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YGozA32dxV3P2sUqzemj6kmLra75dtEY/view
https://www.shakeshack.com/nutritional-information/

New to Cronometer and looking to see if there's a way to view a week at a time with reporting. Weekends are a little bit heavier for me due to social events so I try to do a little extra work during the week to mitigate that. Seeing a weekly view would allow me to know if I stayed on target for the week or not.

Just started with chronometer - fantastic resource. I made a cabbage and bacon stir fry yesterday - total raw ingredient wt = 2200kg. My cooked serving portion weighed 220g and the total cooked amount would do 4 - 5 servings ---- so lost approximately 50% water weight. What is the best method to enter these recipe details? If I just use the data as is, my portion is drawing 10% of the nutrient detail, instead of 25% cooked detail.
So how to account for the "cooking" when entering ingredient weights?
Thanks for any advice

Foods often lose vitamins when cooked. To help me pick the correct description for items for more accurate nutrition, it would be helpful if Cronometer could develop a standard format for describing them. For example, sometimes I want to enter a weight or volume for uncooked rice in a recipe that I am about to cook.

Presumably the nutrition values listed are for cooked rice because pretty much no one eats uncooked rice. Some recipes call for rice which is already cooked, or I may be serving myself a portion of already cooked rice, in which case I am going to enter measurements for the cooked weight, so I would pick the entry for pre-cooked rice.

But let's say I'm eating some spinach. Spinach can be eaten raw or it can be eaten cooked. If I'm putting spinach into say, an omelet, then it is easiest for me to weigh out the raw spinach and enter that, rather than cooking it separately then weighing it. However the nutrition of cooked spinach should be different than raw. Does "Spinach, Cooked from Frozen" refer to the weight of the frozen spinach which I then cook? Or does it refer to a pile of standalone spinach that I've just say, steamed from frozen? ditto for "Spinach, Cooked from Fresh".

In other words, if I am putting some fresh spinach into a dish that I am cooking, should I weigh the raw spinach, enter that as "Spinach, raw", then cook it? Or do I need to enter that weight under "Spinach, Cooked from Fresh"? Or does that label require that I cook the spinach separately and then weigh it? The way that the foods are labeled are ambiguous in this regard so I end up confused as to what to pick and how to enter it. Thus far I have been entering the weight of raw spinach that I am cooking under "Spinach, Cooked from Fresh" but I'm not sure if that's correct and there may be times that I want to enter the weight of standalone already steamed spinach.

Hello,

I'm considering trying Cronometer (again) and one of the most important features to me is that I can log common foods and brands available in supermarkets and bakeries easily (preferably DACH region: Billa, Spar, Lidl, Aldi, etc.). A couple years ago I had to create most supermarkets foods myself which ultimately turned me away from Cronometer.

So what is the state of the Cronometer database for European brands and supermarket foods? Can the items be scanned / logged easily or do I still have to create most foods myself?

Cheers!

I've searched high and low and haven't found a way to solve my issue.

I often make a recipe where all of the ingredients don't have the same weights from time to time. For example: I make a smoothie with many ingredients, one of which is a banana. I weigh everything and the weight of the banana varies significantly from time to time.

Recipes and meals when added to the diary are added as a completed item, not individual components, which frankly I would prefer.

How can I adjust the variable weights each time I make a recipe without having to enter each component each time.

TIA,

Greetings from a newbie!

So recently, I received a 'bad' screening test for Type 2 diabetes, and it freaked me the hell out. An injury a couple of years back put me on a downward spiral, so I know how I got here, but I'm determined to do what I can to reverse this situation.

I'm 10 days into Cronometer, and 10 lbs have already vanished. 😱

Fast, right? Not really. My AI nutritionist coach is doing a great job on the dietary side of things and says the first lbs to go are mostly water anyway, so it will slow down soon. My doctor is also closely monitoring me through various blood tests.

Is anyone here on a similar journey to beat Type 2 diabetes?

I found it on Amazon for ~$30 but then I saw that I need "strips" and lancets and there are different kinds and sizes. The ketone ones go for about a buck in quantity, although the glucose strips are cheaper. I also saw reviews and Reddit posts saying you don't need to spend anything on the machine as it is inaccurate and has to be calibrated. ("Just stay in the macro zone") I don't mind spending a few bucks, but I hate wasting money. Can anyone point me to a real review of this? Is the Precision Xtra worth buying? I don't mind reading.

Hey Cronometer Team & Community,

I'm loving the app for macro & micro tracking, but there's a major gap that's frustrating: The Nutrition Report and Daily Summary Export are missing these key vitamins & minerals:

Iodine, Choline, Biotin, Molybdenum & Chromium

These show up fine when zooming into individual foods (great!), but they're absent from nutrition reports, and exports. So adding them should not be a "big deal" as the fields already exist for each food!

Iodine NEEDS to be front-and-center—thyroid health is huge, and over-supplementing is a real risk as it gets more popular.

Choline is vital for liver function (hello, NAFLD - a growing epidemic).

Biotin from eggs, molybdenum & chromium for metabolism—these aren't "nice-to-haves"; they're essential for precise tracking.

Again: The fields/data are already present on individual foods. They just aren't showing in Nutrition Report or the Daily Summary export. Thus, there is NO way to see how much of these key nutrients one is getting; thus we can't see if we are, for example, getting too much Iodine or too little!

Is this a free vs. Gold/Pro thing? I'd upgrade in a heartbeat if it unlocks this - it's a game-changer for health insights. Can we get them added ASAP as they've been missing from these reports for years? Would love official word or a workaround!

Thanks for building such a solid tool - hoping to make it even better!

EDIT: I signed up for Gold annual subscription. Same issue - nutrition report & daily summary export do not contain these critical nutrients. However, I am able to create custom single nutrient charts. However, this is just the daily amounts... it would still be best to be able to see these in the aggregate sum on the Nutrition Report & Daily Summary export if at all possible. Thanks!

(sorry, I should have put this in 'Feature Requests' but I can't change it unless someone from Cronometer Team can change the category for me? Thanks!)

And Cronometer is not helping me track my grams of fiber, the way it helps me track my grams of protein, etc.

My dream is for Cronometer to have an option for a slider at the top of the diary, along with the other macros, so I could establish fiber IN GRAMS (not in percentages of RDA), and watch throughout the day as I meet that "extra" macro, not just protein / fat / carb. After all, I can establish how much protein I need per day. I would LOVE to establish how much fiber as well.

Pretty please? How can I do this?

I don't know when the 'suggest food' function was updated but OMG!!!! You have made one happy customer here!!!!

Part of the reason why I was on and off with Cronometer - which I love anyways, I guess my newly acquired 7 years anniversary badge is a testament to that 😁 - was that it was really difficult to plan meals to maximise nutrition to meet the kind of 'lows' I had.

For example, I noticed I do not meet my calcium RDAs, almost ever, folate and potassium also tend to fall by the wayside, and iron can be.... a little patchy... so when I have time on my hands, I can plan meals that kind of somehow improve things slightly but on days when I'm busy at work, come home to an empty fridge or am not in the mood or too stressed, I just kind of give up and that is usually my excuse to fall off the wagon...

I had tried the 'suggest foods' thingy before but it was weird and pretty much useless, you'd end up having the same recipe for almost everything - and it was not a tempting one either.

Now, DRUM ROLL!

The new AI-powered 'Suggest Food' is just brilliant!

First: it lets you filter by diet, so although I am not a vegetarian, I often prefer to eat vegetarian food, and you can also filter with Vegetarian+Gluten Free if you need to.

Second: you can filter by meal type.... in the previous incarnation, you just got that one or two stodgy recipes I felt and that was that...

and

Third: you can exclude foods you are trying to stay away from - either because you are allergic, or don't like or whatever....

Now, you'd think that would be enough to win me over, but no.... Once you've asked the AI to suggest food, and it has brought up a list of possible recipes with estimated macro targets to match what you need to have to reach your nutritional needs for the day, you can then check the highlighted nutrients it will provide you with and then you can also check the estimated nutrition score for the recipe....

Oh, and....... if you click on the 'ingredients' link under the recipe name, you get the breakdown of what you need to gather for your meal, and you can still remove any ingredient you don't want or don't have in your cupboard....

That is just brilliant brilliant brilliant!!!! Thank you for this major improvement.

I now know that on my way home from work, I can just ask Crono to suggest what I could have for super and get a much better nutrition than with my old ways of grabbing some easily put together ingredients and lots of bread, and lots of cheese to feel me up 😉

So this is probably not the right channel to put this comment in, but I really wanted to say how excited I am, and I really feel it will help me be much more consistent at logging my food!

Once again, thank you for updating this fantastic function!

Now, what I'd love to have next 😁 is the possibility of having a sort of list of food, ingredients etc I have in my house, so that I could also produce shopping lists and buy stuff to help me manage longer term.... but please, the team can give themselves a good pat on the back... thank you guys!
