Google says this regarding Allulose and Net Carbs. Why Cronometer does not calculate Allulose in the Net Carb calculation or allow the user to manually do it?

**Allulose has 0 net carbs because the human body cannot metabolize it, meaning it passes through the digestive system without impacting blood glucose or insulin levels. While a teaspoon of allulose contains approximately 4 grams of total carbohydrates, these are subtracted when calculating net carbs for keto or diabetic diets.

Calculation: Net Carbs = Total Carbs – (Fiber + Allulose).**

Hey guys so I have looked at a few other similar discussions before posting this, but I am still not 100% on this. My question is in regards to the total calories of certain foods when put into cronometer, raw vs cooked, particularly sweet potato. Last time I did this, I weighed the raw sweet potato (about 1650 grams) and then I weighed it after I boiled it. I drained it very well to remove all the excess water, and it ended up weighing about 1550 grams, not much of a weight loss. The thing is, when you punch these numbers into cronometer, raw vs cooked, they are very different in terms of calories. I guess my question is: if I weigh out X amount of RAW sweet potato and it's, let's say, 1000 calories on cronometer, and then I boil it, will it still be 1000 calories? I would assume it would, right? If it's different, is it negligible (something like 50 calories or less of a difference) or is it significant? There isn't really anything to melt away into the water, I could only assume that it should be very close to the original 1000 calories that it was when it was raw. Another food I cook very often are lentils, the calories on the package should be the same when they are cooked right?

In Cronometer, there is a Carb section which breaks down into Fiber, Insoluble fiber, and soluble fiber. I find it difficult to comprehend how the numbers add up.

Here is my score for today in the attached image.

Total fiber added up to 45.7 g (152%)
Insoluble Fiber 8.6 g (34%)
Soluble Fiber 4 g (80%)

80 + 34 does not add up to 152% on my calculator.
Also, 8.6 g + 4.0 g is nowhere close to 45.7 g.

How can this be, am I missing something? Did I reach my goal or am I short?
Maybe someone can help me figure this out.

I'm a new subscriber. On one hand, I'm very impressed and happy with this app. I feel it may be invaluable, and could change my life. On the other hand, I'm very disappointed to find it is not ideal for UK users.

Firstly, many of the items I scan into Cronometer are instantly recognised, but when I look closely, they only contain the basic info on the label, such as protein, fat, salt etc and contain no information on nutrients and vitamins. Eg. I just scanned a Marks & Spencer minced beef and onion pie, and there are no nutrients or vitamins in it. I know for a fact that minced beef contains iron, to say the least.

I also scanned in Tesco mixed peanuts, almonds and cashew nuts. Cronometer instantly recognised it so I added it to my favourites. But then I noticed again - no nutrient or vitamin information. So I had to create my own food and added in the 3 nuts separately. Then I found they contain a super-food level of minerals nutrients and vitamins - all of which would not have been logged if I hadn't noticed.

I also find that when a food isn't recognised, and you add it yourself with photos of the front and nutrition label, the same applies. No vitamins, or minerals listed - only the basic protein, fat, salt etc.

I'm not sure why these foods are recognised but only basic information is catalogued, not why this isn't pointed out to users? It is very possible for people to be logging their every food and drink trying to ensure they get all the recommended daily vitamins and minerals not realising that many of their foods are not showing any nutrient or vitamin information.

Potassium Adequate Intake for me is 2600 mg and Sodium AI is 1500 mg. The ratio is almost always out of balance, even though I am on a low sodium diet. Shouldn't the ratio be consistent with Adequate Intake and Upper Limit? There is no way I can eat enough to potassium rich foods to achieve a 6:1 ratio. How much potassium supplement is safe to take at one time to try to maintain a balance? I would have to consume 9000 mg Potassium to have a 6:1 ratio with 1500 mg Sodium. Is this accurate? Is this safe?

The supplement I'm taking indicates that each capsule contains 60mg of Choline and 300mg of CDP Choline. Recording it in the app only puts the 60mg in the Choline category - which leaves me short of my target each day. How are others handling this? Is there a best practice? With a mostly plant-based diet, this is one nutrient I'm usually low on in the tracker. Thank you

The data source is NCCDB so should be of high quality. cronometer tells me that three cups of this drink, pure water passed through coffee grounds with nothing added, has about 80% of the B2 and B5 that I need, 20% of the potassium that I need, and 22% of the fiber I need. Could this possibly be right? All other sources I have searched say that ground coffee with nothing added has almost no nutrients. I ask because cronometer reports that coffee is a significant source of fiber and potassium in my diet.

I don't take much more than 15 minutes to consume my smoothie.

I usually either have blueberry/strawberry/spinach, or peach/mango/carrot. On the fasting mornings that I have the peach/mango/carrot combo, by the time I get near the bottom of my smoothie, I get an alcohol-like taste. I have deduced it is the stevia because by lowering the amount, the effect is lessened, but still there. It never happens on the berry-smoothie mornings, nor with either if stevia is not used.

On my non-fasting mornings, I use maple syrup to sweeten my smoothies and soy milk instead of water. The issue does not arise. I use stevia to sweeten herbal teas and have not had this issue either. I can't avoid the stevia in my smoothies because just the fruit does not mask the taste of the turmeric enough, and on fasting days I can't afford the calories associated with the maple syrup. I can't skip the turmeric because of arthritis symptoms (it does help quite a bit)

Does anyone have any ideas what could be the cause of this?

Have been using Cronometer for 5 days and absolutely love it.
When logging food I try to always use the NCCDB, as this seems to provide the greatest detail with regard to nutrients.

I'm located in Australia, so some of our food names differ to those in the US.

I was wondering, what do Americans call the vegetable pictured? In Australia, we call it a Jap Pumpkin. When I searched it, NCCDB (nor any of the other DBs) had an entry. I looked it up on Google and seemed to get lots of different answers.

If anyone knows, that would be awesome.

Hi everyone,

I’m new to weightlifting and want to take advantage of my increased muscle building capacity as well as have optimum recovery between sessions. Ethically I’m vegan and used to only get ~20g protein per day (not enough). I found I feel better when I get at least 60 when not training, but now that I’m training I don’t know how much I actually need of gross protein vs. amino acids.

What I mean is that many vegetables and plant foods fill up my amino acid needs without adding significantly to overall protein & I don’t understand if I really need to eat this much protein if I hit aminos.

Where do the amino acid recommendations come from? Would they change with resistance training/activity increase? Does protein help exercise recovery (weightlifting) or just carbs?

For reference- I’m a small person so at maintenance if I aim for 1g/lb LBM I end up consuming ~40% calories from protein & 40% carbs so I’m not sure if that’s maximizing recovery...

Thanks for any reading advice or responses. (& I’m comfortable reading research if anyone has any)

-Posi

I'm interested in buying my first wearable device, a smartwatch, fitness tracker, or smart ring. There have been a number of articles about how these wearable devices can warn of cold, flu, and even COVID-19 several days before the symptoms begin. If I see those first warning signs (and cannot point to a change in routine or other clear explanation), then I can take some pre-emptive actions, like getting tested, scaling back activities, masking up more vigorously, sleeping more than usual, and eating lots of garlic and ginger. I can avoid spreading viruses and maybe even avert all symptoms as well.

From what I've read, the relevant parameters that can be monitored include resting heart rate, heart rate variability, skin temperature, electrodermal activity, and blood oxygen. Blood pressure monitoring would be nice. (Should I get the blood pressure monitoring feature? Or is is too expensive/inaccurate to be worth it?)

I should note that I'm NOT concerned about my step count or how many calories I'm burning. I know if I'm getting enough exercise, and I'm too skinny to be concerned about calories. I use Cronometer just for making very sporadic spot checks of my diet, and I'm more interested in my vitamin/mineral/fiber intake than my calories and macros.

I'm not interested in buying an Apple or Microsoft product. The Apple and Microsoft ecosystems are too expensive for me.

What features should I look for in a wearable device?

Let me know what you think of the low-end wearables available at stores near me:
https://www.microcenter.com/product/635952/wyze-watch-47mm
https://www.microcenter.com/product/635604/amazfit-bip-u-pro-smart-watch-black
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/3plus-hr-plus-activity-tracker-heart-rate-teal-teal/6428412.p?skuId=6428412
