Cronometer's Got a Fresh New Look

edited January 2019 in General Discussion

2019 is going to be an exciting year for Cronometer, and we want to keep you updated on everything that is going on with your favorite nutrition tracking app. Today is an exciting day for us as we launch a new and improved cosmetic overhaul for the web version of Cronometer.

The big changes sit at the top of the web page in the navigation bar. We have added subcategories to each of the main tabs that will help you navigate quickly through the app.

Within each tab, you may see a couple more changes most notably in the updated settings tab.

To go along with these new changes we have also realeased an updated comprehensive user manual.

You can check it out here: https://cronometer.zendesk.com/hc/en-us

  • Agreed with the commenter above. The foods tab lists the custom recipes, but you have to scroll down on the screen instead of a box. I like the larger print on the daily diary, but there is a lot of space in between that could probably be condensed.

I mentioned this in a previous post, but I'd like to see the weight graph on the diary page have a custom range that stays set on the range you want to see until you change it. I started Keto on Oct 1 and would like to see my weight from that date only. I don't think there is a way to delete any previous weight info?

  • Hi @Livindol thanks for the feedback!
You can delete a weight by navigating back to that day in your diary. Then delete the weight from your diary by right clicking on the entry and choosing Delete. You can also delete an entry by selecting it, then using the drop down menu in the top right corner of your diary pane to choose delete.

  • Thanks, I've navigated back to some of the dates shown and not every date has a weight entry. I probably just updated the weight on the profile menu

  • Hi @livindol,
If your weight was updated from the profile, it will automatically add a biometric entry to your diary from that day.

  • @Livindol @omegaterus, the larger sized fields in the diary have been changed back to their original size.

Wow ... is this ever less friendly to use.
Agree with previous comments about scrolling.
"Foods" tab is much less convenient - more scrolling, more clicking ... Search should be available on every page (sub-tab?), and without having to expand a dropdown to begin typing. What a pain in the patoot.

Oh, and the layout doesn't work well on hi-res screen - screen content is centered (as it has been), but the nav bar/menu is now off to the left side. That's a lot of ground to cover on a 4K monitor.

    :/

  • @Hilary: oh, great, thanks about the smaller lines, can see a meal on the screen without scrolling again!

Hi @foofoo thanks for your feedback. As always, we do take your feedback into consideration! Could you send an email to support@cronometer.com containing a screenshot of the view on your monitor? We would like to look into this issue.
I was also wondering if you could clarify the problem you are seeing with the search function/dropdown menu?

  • I don't like that the macro/calorie settings have been moved to a new tab ("settings"). Before it was really easy to make changes and now you have to migrate through multiple tabs.

If you do carb or calorie cycling then you end up changing the calorie/macro settings frequently (which is already a pain), but now that you need to navigate through multiple screens it is even more so. (Adding a feature where you could set different goals for different days of the week would be great!)

  • Nav bar offcenter issue has been resolved - looked like there was some kind of holdover of the old style nav bar (orange) mixed with seemingly random appearances of the new style nav bar (white).

Search is still a mixed bag -
It is not inefficient to click the "+ Search Foods" link and then immediately have the focus move to the input field in a search pop-up. It's more that the interface convention (+ Search Foods) implies that "Search Foods" will be expanded, not that a pop-up will open.
Or, it could mean that a new item will be added (that's what "+" means - something additional), as it's used on the Custom Recipes and Custom Foods tabs.

I still think the ability to search food should be available from any of the Foods screens. The previous design was more efficient, allowing any action to be initiated from the landing screen when clicking on "Foods" (or whatever it used to be called).

  • I'm still not able to find a weight entry from Aug 2, 2018. On my weight chart, it shows the date and the weight but when I go to that date in my diary, nothing is there. The weight change chart is useless since I can't set it at a custom date, so the weight change since I started keto is not correct, not very motivating. If I look under Trends, Charts there is a custom time range, but it doesn't show total weight loss numbers! Not very motivating!

  • Great point @foofoo , I agree, the + in front of Search foods doesn't make sense in this context. I will pass this along to our designer so she can take a look.
We are going to be looking into adding more functionality to the foods tab in the future, so we will definitely take your other suggestions into account. Thanks for the great feedback!

  • I be been getting aquainted with new features.so far so good. My main puzzle, why all the adds? They are distracting and were already "believers "!!!. It's very very annoying. Other wise I be cronometer. The obvious features of course. I use the recipe section a lot when making meals from scratch. I can tweak portions and macros. And if it turns out yummy i can repeat! The adds suck.

  • Oops... '......I love cronometer...'

  • This new look is just awful, also its just to white and not to pleasant to look at, it would be nice to have some colours and colourful pie charts, I hate to compare as I really love chronometer but how about colours like carb manager has?

    Lizzy

  • Hi fitgirl,

Thanks for your feedback! Now that we have a clean slate the design team is going to work on adding in colour in a purposeful and consistent way.

    Cheers,

  • That’s great!!

    Lizzy

  • Well I beg to differ! I like the new look, I like the larger print and expanded views and my finger does not mind scrolling at all. I especially like the nutrition summary and the top banner, love the time stamps!

  • HATE the new version. Why did you have to change something that was great? Much harder to track foods. Hate the block at the top that takes up a third of my screen space. leave me the choice of looking at that info! Really hate it. I will be looking for a different app.

  • edited April 2019

I actually like it but I do agree about the block at the top it does take up a lot of room but other then that I’m enjoying it.

    Lizzy

  • edited April 2019

Thanks for letting us know @maggiec . We have found that on smaller screen sizes the top header is taking up more room than anticipated. We are looking into finding a more proportional way to shrink the header for smaller formats.

We really appreciate any and all suggestions, as it helps direct development of the software. Big changes like this one sometimes take some time to get used to - I hope you will stick with it, and please let me know if you have any suggestions that will make the app easier to use once you have tried it out for about a week. We love user feedback and are very receptive to suggestions.
