I don't understand target v balance

I just don't understand the difference, the one that says remaining, I think thats easy, I've got 458 calories remaining right? But if I toggle and change it to balance what does that mean? What does 824 deficit mean? So confused by this, I'm sure it's a simple explanation if someone could explain like they were talking to an alien that would be helpful. TIA

Firstly - Balance excludes any weight target you are aiming at.
Target includes any extra you need to do for weight management you are aiming to achieve. So - if you look at balance and see deficit it means you have consumed less calories than you have used. Over means you have consumed more than you needed to just maintain your existing weight, and it may cause weight gain.
If you look at target, and see a deficit it means you are good for meeting your weight loss target, if you see over, and you are looking for weight loss, it means you are not on track to meet your weight target. But if you are looking to gain weight and you see over you are good for gaining weight.

Thank you, that now makes perfect sense!
