Data for choline omits eggs

edited May 2019 in Help

Data for choline ignores the 4 eggs I eat daily giving a small amount and percentage of choline and not including eggs in the drop-down list.

Went back a year in my diary and saw it tablulated then. I recently changed the entry in my Foods List using the brand name. And just now created a "recipe" using the brand name and entered that into my diary, and still my eggs do not register for "choline".

Please help.

ETA: I've tried adding eggs my diary in different ways, and it is only tablulated for nutrients when I simple enter "egg, large".

  • Is there any reason you're using brand name eggs instead of the generic egg entry from NCCDB?

  • I'm doing Keto and eat Pete & Gerry's Eggs which are richer in nutrients. If using brand names, or certain brand names, doesn't allow one to use an important part of cronometer it should be stated. This seems to be a glitch which should be rectified.

  • Here at Cronometer, we take pride in curating an accurate and complete database. Every user submitted food is reviewed by our curation team before being added to the database; Branded products that are submitted by users only contain the nutrition information that is contained on the nutrition facts table on the packaging or on the Brand's official website. If you do find a mistake we would love it if you could let us know by reporting an issue.

Products that haven't been analyzed by NCCDB and USDA, have nutrition labels that only include a very basic set of nutrients mandated by law/ reported by the manufacturer. We are not a lab and do not test foods for their nutrient content, and can only provide the information that is available to us from the manufacturer.

You can learn how to choose the best data for your needs here: https://cronometer.com/blog/6-tips-getting-nutrition-data/

If your priority is to get the most detailed information for a food, I recommend choosing entries from the NCCDB in the Common Foods Tab. By choosing entries in the common foods tab (as described in the above link to Blog post) you can ensure that you are getting accurate information.

Thank you for this info, Hilary. I do love Cronometer!

  • TeaFree, if you happen to know the additional nutrient values for Pete & Gerry's Eggs, then you can make a Custom Food that has all the NCCDB micronutrients, plus your additional values.

[this is using the web interface] Go to Foods->Search Foods to bring up the generic NCCDB food page for eggs, then selecting "Edit a Copy" from the NCCDB eggs page. Then, for the appropriate weight, for those nutrients you have for the P&G Eggs, change the nutrient values, then save.

The following help page is focused on adding a new custom food, but covers much of the same ground: https://cronometer.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018240312-Create-a-Custom-Food
