Are custom recipes supposed to update with changes to custom foods?

I can't tell if this is expected behaviour or not:
I have a custom recipe, that itself uses both custom foods and other custom recipes (eg: I make something called fakes, and then I create a template of fakes-meal that includes the fakes + other items that I usually eat with it.

When I update the base fakes, I get an option to update entries in the Diary... but I'm unsure if that is also supposed to update the fakes-meal template. It looks to me like it doesn't, but if I had a clue as to the intended behaviour I would be able to tell if it's a bug or not
