Querying Cronometer Data?
I’ve been using cronometer for about six months now and I like it. I haven’t used any other apps for this sort of thing, so I don’t have anything to compare it too. I generally can find my way around to do the thing I want to do.
There is something I’d like to do and figure Cronometer and the data I have added to it along with the data in it might be able to help me do it. It seems like the sort of thing others may also have done or want to do. Rather than reinvent the wheel I thought I’d ask.
I have confirmed what I suppose I already know which is that while there are countless foods, my diet consists of a much smaller number of things. I am trying some new foods too. As
I’ve been thinking of putting together a list, spreadsheet, flashcards or something of food items that I do like, are easy to come by or prepare and list what nutrients & other dietary attributes they have. Then when meal planning or just seeing how my nutrient balance is progressing during the course of a day I could look through this list and see what might be a good fit. I do know some of this about my common foods, but there are a lot of nutrients, etc.
Cronometer is a database system at it’s heart. I know I can export all my food choices and the nutritional values over a period of time so I guess I could then import that into a spreadsheet or actual database program and run queries in it on that data. I wonder if Cronometer has any way of doing that built in? Or maybe there is a plugin or extension to do this sort of thing?
I know there is Suggest a Food and the Oracle. One is for finding foods with a specific nutrient and the other just suggests some foods based on a few dietary preferences. Both seem to pick foods from a very large universe of foods. That’s fine, but many are foods that aren’t necessarily easy to find where I live or don’t sound like something I’d care for or know how to prepare.
I’m wondering if maybe an option to limit the search to items I have entered in the past with some frequency. Although I eat them and track them and sort of am learning what nutrients they have, there are many nutrients and such. I don’t have all that info in my head yet and may never. Seems like this might make learning that sort of thing easier and if I’m just looking for something to balance my diet on as I am getting through the day limiting my search to foods that are already in my diet and frequently would sort of make it more likely to find something that even if I don’t have it on hand, might be able to get easily as the day progresses.
