A "My Pantry" Option when adding Foods

A feature I've never seen in a calorie counting app that I would love would be the option to bulk scan barcodes for things in my kitchen as an easy way to add ingredients.

I cook without recipes often, and tends to be my downfall and what makes me stop tracking. It would be much easier for me to scroll through what I've already entered in "My Pantry" while cooking rather than searching each item/scanning them all after the meal or trying to input as I go

  • Interesting concept. I got so used to weigh everything in grams ever since I got into making sourdough, that I don't really use the scanner at all. I make up my own recipes all the time; either by inspiration of a recipe I read somewhere, or I just look what's in the fridge and go by that. (#wtfisinmyfridge) I just balance what I add by food quality - legumes for protein, leafy greens, any other veggies, fruit, seeds, nuts, whole grains and fermented foods on top. I weigh everything, add the estimated amount of oil or other healthy fats and spices and then just do the "cooking" or building of the meal (if it's a salad). I avoid UPFs (ultra-processed foods) or anything packaged that I can make myself.

  • For veggies/ fruits that is absolutely what I do but the amount of times I've had to pull the pasta box (or rice bag or cheese wrapper or yogurt container...) out of the garbage to check what brand after I finished cooking is embarrassing. To me, it would be helpful to bulk scan everything I bought after shopping and be able to store it somewhere. I'm also in Canada, so I find some of our stuff isn't in the directory and I'd rather get that sorted before I'm in the middle of cooking.
