Why is adding recent/frequent food so complicated?

Hi,

I've come from a decade of MFP so forgive me

Am I meant to have to type in the first ten letters of every food every time I add it? There is no recent food option at all?

I see favourites, but that list is quickly growing to the point I need to type it anyway...

I've found forum responses from developers saying it will learn, I've given it a month, it has added some things to the top of the first tab but one of them is something I've eaten once (literally, it was a test on day one, I didn't physically eat it!)... but the thing I almost eat every day is nowhere to be seen.

I saw there is a daily thing on premium so I tried that only to find out it's for things you eat EVERY day... I just want the things I ate last/recently to populate each category first, just change the weight of a food to be the highest every time you eat it, it sounds painfully simple.

The mobile app is slightly better, there's a recent option.... but every time I add something I have to tap 4 times to change it, then it's recent everything, not recent for that meal - _It's a UX nightmare. _

  • I have been using Cronometer for 6+ years (probably close to 10 I would think) and it has NEVER learned. Recent foods sometimes shows up in the "All' tab but that is hit or miss. Also, my favorites rarely show up in the All tab when I start typing them in. Again, it's hit or miss. Heck, on a Monday I can type in a favorite and it shows as the first thing. Try it again on Wednesday and it's nowhere in the list. It's frustrating, but Cronometer is still the best app for this, IMO, especially if you care about micronutrients.
I agree - there needs to be a recent foods tab and the "Common" tab should be just that. I don't care what "common" foods everyone else eats. I care what common foods I eat.

  • That was my fear :(

I decided to do a day back on MFP to see if I was just wearing rose tinted glasses and instantly it is all there, the right foods for the right meals, right at the top, no searching needed

It's frustrating, cronometer is a lot more functional in every respect other than the thing it's got to be good at, quickly logging food

I'll have to go back to using MFP, the convenience is the thing that keeps me on the straight and narrow

  • Myfitnesspal - been around for 20+ years, it has its pluses and minuses compared to cronometer :)
