Used to use FitBit logging app and wore FitBit Luxe, but Google Health and a tumor ruined it for me

I wanted to share my experience as a former Fitbit user. One of the features I really appreciated was the free food logging that came with Fitbit. Unfortunately, the new Google Health app has been frustrating to use.

I also had to stop wearing my Fitbit after developing a small tumor on the top of my wrist where I wore it. While I can't say what caused it, I've decided not to wear tracking devices directly against my skin anymore. Instead, I'll rely on my phone or possibly a tracker attached to my shoe.

I actually discovered Cronometer by accident and decided to try the free version. I was so impressed that I upgraded to Gold within just a few days—and that's saying something because I'm someone who almost never pays for apps. So far, I love the interface, and it works seamlessly with Apple Health on my older iPhone.

I've also been recovering from surgery for a rare tumor in my face, and I'm slowly getting back to my normal routine. During this journey, I learned that glucose can fuel the growth of many tumor and cancer cells, which has motivated me to take my nutrition much more seriously. I now analyze my diet at a level I never did before.

As someone who has lived with a rare chronic illness for which there is no cure, and who is now recovering from a rare facial tumor, I'm hopeful that focusing on excellent nutrition and making healthier food choices can improve my long-term health. I also try to be mindful of reducing my exposure to contaminants whenever possible in our increasingly polluted world. While I know there are no guarantees, I believe that giving my body the best possible nutrition is one way I can stack the odds in my favor (or I have to believe that in order to get out of bed every morning).
