Feature Request: Separate proteing counts between Animal and Plant and provide a total
Hi, I'm a retired software engineer (app developer), whose focus is now on nutrition and how it impacts health. I've been using Cronometer for years, and I'm currently a gold member bc it's the best diary out there by far, and I should know.
Here's why it's super important: After being too busy to personally monitor the health sciences at an engineer level in the past, I followed medical advice straight into stage 3 kidney disease. I'm now retired and trying to avoid dialysis. I'm sure I don't need to explain the why to you guys, it's your business after all, but for readers... Too much protein is a problem for kidney disease... even normal amounts are too high, and I've currently been tasked with consuming only around 45g per day of animal protein. As someone in their 60s, I take animal collagen to supplement what my body isn't making anymore. That leaves less for meat, cheese, and other dairy products. I need protein to keep from losing muscle mass, and I also need calcium for osteopenia. I am walking a narrow line, nutritionally. I am currently limiting my meat intake to 2 oz, 2x per day. But, I'm hopeful that I can meet these needs by upping my plant proteins. However, I have to keep a protein spreadsheet in addition to logging into Cronometer because you guys don't have a way to keep an automatic tally of animal protein/plant protein/total protein... I need it. I'm already spending most of my day coming up with meal plans and cooking everything from scratch to avoid processed foods. This isn't just a cool thing to know; it's a necessity.
Here's how it would benefit Cronometer: During the current "high protein" phase the world is going through, many people are overdoing protein, and making their kidneys work harder... but that's not even the main problem. With insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and diabetes on the rise, soon, much of the population will have kidney disease and need a food diary that helps them walk the same fine line I'm walking, concerning animal and plant protein. And, you know, the science of nutrition is becoming very clear on the impact food is having on our health... Hopefully, many more people will be using food diaries along with the gym memberships they're buying. Both of those things make this feature very good for business. Thanks for your consideration and for reading my post.
