Please add 'sunlight' (vitamin D)

Is there a possibility of adding vitamin D in the form of ‘minutes of sunlight’please?
So many people must think they are not getting enough vitamin D when in fact they are getting plenty just by spending time in direct sunlight.

We will get this on our features request list if it is not already there.

  • This could be quite complicated, because the sun at different hours, season, latitude etc would be different even to the same person, let alone all the different skin tones of different people! I hope any scale available won’t just use the common default of a young white male.

  • I agree, it is definitely something I need to track as I spend far too much time indoors.

With regard to the time of day, season, latitude, skin tone, etc – I’d suggest that these variables make it too complicated to extrapolate any useful data in the cronometer app itself. Each person can work out their individual needs and then interpret their results accordingly.

As a minimum, cronometer could record the duration of each entry (if the entry time feature is implemented, then that data will be included), and the season. The obvious place would be the biometric capture.

  • I think percentage of skin exposed will be important, too. I doubt Canadians will go nude which we should sometimes in regard to vitD3. ;)

  • @TheVeryHungryMommy Yes - we Canadians struggle to get enough vitamin D from sun year-round. It would be nice to be able to track this, but I think all the factors that influence how much vitamin D is synthesized makes it too challenging to track.

  • I've been using cronometer for 3 days and instantly this problem is jumping out - I'm pretty much vegan and according to the results I'm chronically deficient. But I spend 30-60 minutes nearly every afternoon running and working out in the sun. There's no way I'm going to be deficient. I attempted to add 'sunlight' as a 'food', thinking it must be catered for. But nothing.

Surely different types of sun (location, position in sky/time of day) plus quantity would be better than nothing even if it doesn't take into account skin types?

  • One also need to take into account the half-life. So, ability to show the decline on a graph. Potentially add alarms / reminders. One can all the factors necessary and weighted in terms of affect importance.

  • In the interim I added, as a hack, a Vit D food entry that I measure in 30 min = on serving.

  • There are several Vitamin D from sun exposure calculators online. www.vitamindwiki.com/UV+and+Vitamin+D+calculators

  • In case anyone looks back at this thread, check out the app “dminder.” The interface isn’t good but the calculations seem legit.
