Entering Multiple Foods at Once?

Hey there! I'm new to Cronometer and quite enjoying it. If at all possible (and hopefully this would also be useful for others), I'd like to request a feature where we could enter multiple foods at once (rather than submitting every item individually). It seems like a small detail, but as someone who must eat many small meals a day, it's a real timesaver.

While cronometer has some things up on Sparkpeople, the thing I really did enjoy about spark people was that you could simply select the quantity of each food from a drop down menu (all your most recent entries show up in a list), and you just select the a quantity of each item and hit "send" all at once to make the entry. It also saves the last quantity you entered. It saved me a LOT of time... If we could get that in the works here, it'd be a game changer!

  • Hi InkblotJo,

We have heard this feature request and have it on the list. It would be a time-saver to add many foods to your diary at one time.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

  • Thanks for the reply, Karen! I'm excited to hear it's in the works, and I'm grateful that you guys are taking recommendations and listening :)

  • Karen, I'd like to expound on this asking if we could save a combination of foods. Like maybe we could set up a group called "breakfast" - either enter just the items or the items with measurements. Then we select Breakfast and the items are adding individually so that we could still adjust each food item up or down (or delete it).

So for me, Breakfast would be (every single day):

Coffee, made from grounds - 20 ounces
Heavy whipping cream - 1 tbsp
    Tap Water - 34 ounces

  • Thanks for your feedback @horsenbuggy. With this feature you could add your entire meal with one click!

In the meantime, you could create a recipe with your breakfast items and you will be able to add these items to your diary all in one go. If you need to make an adjustment to the ingredients, right-click on the recipe in your diary and Explode recipe to see all the ingredients in your diary and make changes as needed.

    Best,
    Karen

  • Karen, well duh. You just taught me something. This is a powerful little program y'all have created. I have barely even scratched the surface of using it!

  • Always happy to help :) Keep the questions coming!

  • for regular multiple items I did that.. my "Daily Vitamins" are all part of one recipe so I don't have to add them individually!

  • I can't get enough potassium easily and I found out sun dried tomatoes worked the best but I want to use sun dried tomatoes powder and I don't see it on your food list.
Would be nice to see it added. Thanks.

  • We currently do not have this in our database. Before we add new foods to our database we must find a high quality source for the nutrient information.
Meanwhile you can add a custom food for this food by following these steps: https://cronometer.com/help/foods/#addfood. If your food is a branded, store-bought item, it should have a nutrition facts table attached. You can scan your food and add it to our queue of foods to be reviewed and added to the database.

You can also try using Food #453665 Sun-Dried Tomato, Dry Pack and measuring your sundried tomato powder in grams (ignoring the conventional volume measurements). This will work out to the same total amount as mass is conserved.

  • I know I can create a recipe for groups of items like my supplements or my normal snacks. Is there a feature where I add the"recipe" to my diary and then remove one or more items from the diary without modifying the recipe? For example, I may have run out of vitamin D3 so am not taking it while waiting for it to be delivered by mail order but am taking all the other supplements in my normal routine. Or I normally have three cups of coffee with half and half but today I only drank two. Thanks

  • I figured out how to do this on my computer using the "explode recipe" option. Is there a way to do this on my phone since most of my food entries are done on the phone? Thanks!

  • I also figured out how to do this on my phone using the "explode recipe" option by swiping right. Thanks!
