False Iron indication.

Hi there,

When I input into the diary any kind of supplement that gives 18mg iron (100% DV/daily value for the American labels) I am getting a false iron DV of 225%.

I've tried this with many different kind of supplements that include iron, in three different Cron o meter accounts; every time the same thing happened. I haven't check it out yet if this this bug exist also on the rest of micronutrients (vitamins/minerals).

Best regards
George

  • Hi Don_Keygeorge,

Food labels list the amount of each nutrient (grams, micrograms, etc.) and a %DV (percent daily value). The %DV provides a way to compare the nutrients in two different food products, with potentially different serving sizes - by standardizing the amount of each nutrient to %DV based on a 2000 kcal diet.

The %DVs are used for nutrition labeling purposes only, and are different than the RDAs and AIs that your nutrient targets are based on in your diary page. You can view your iron target by scrolling to the Nutrient Targets section of the diary page, then click on iron to view a pop-up of your minimum and maximum targets. Your nutrient target is calculated as a percent of your minimum target. You can also view/edit your targets from the Profile tab, under Nutritional Targets, then select the Minerals tab to find iron.

Learn more about the nutrient targets in our user guide: https://cronometer.com/help/profile/#targets
