Adding New Supplement -Bar Code not reading

Trying to add Omega-3 supplement from Zahler. Cronometer gets to page where can take a picture of bar code. Then nothing. Held cellphone steady for nearly 5 minutes. Nothing. Even tapped screen to make sure phone did not go to screensaver.

  • Hi Spyros,

Some packages can be difficult for your camera to get the right focus to read the barcode - shiny or rounded packages are particularly challenging. If possible flatten rounded packages and angle the package to remove any glare on the barcode. It may help to hold the barcode a bit farther away from the camera, making sure to keep the entire barcode within the view finder.

If the barcode scanner is still unable to identify the number, you can create a custom food by tapping the Foods tab, then Create New Food to enter in the name, serving size and nutrition information. This will allow you to add the food to your diary. If you would like to submit the food to our public database please log in to your account on the website. Select the Foods tab, open the custom food by selecting it from your list of custom foods. Next, click the gear icon in the top right corner, then Publish Food.

  • Karen,
I was able to workaround that problem, and posted picture of nutrition chart and front label.
How long does it typically take for staff to add food/supplements/etc.????
    Thanks!!!

    Hi Spyros,

Great! Our curation team is hard at work entering in thousands of new foods each week - it depends on how many labels are submitted by our users how quickly we can add your food to the public database.

The food you created will remain in your list of custom foods so you can start using it right away!

    Best,
