Nutrient Balance customization
Is there a way to make the gauges in the "Nutrient Balance" section at the bottom of your diary page to reflect the custom values you put in? I changed my omega 3 to omega 6 ratio, but that change isn't reflected on the gauge. It's till going by the default ratio/values. Thanks.

Sorry, the balance gauge 'sweet spots' are not currently customizable.

Aaron, THANK YOU for your creation of this awesome app AND working with Dr. Mercola who pointed me to it! Question: where do I find the tutorial on understanding the "Nutrient Balances" gauges, i.e. the meanings of the numbers on the right, left and middle of each gauge, as well as how to work with them ? Thank you.

Nutrition Summary on an item shows 436 potassium and 0 Sodium. But the Nutiant Balance shows a gauge that shows Potassium:Sodium of 0:6. Seems like tge ratio would be more like 6:0. How do I read these ratios correctly?
-
@Jes
The gauges are meant to display the ratio of the two nutrients listed below each gauge. For example, an Omega 6:Omega 3 ratio of 10:1 means that for every 10 grams of Omega 6 there is 1 gram of Omega 3.
You can look at the gauge as the value of the first nutrient divided by the value of the second nutrient. Using the same example 10/1 = 10. This number is displayed at the bottom of the gauge. Increasing omega 3 will reduce this number, or if you are planning your food for the future, reducing omega 6 will also reduce the ratio.
These nutrients interact with one another, so keeping your intake in the green zone of the nutrient balance gauge will optimize the amount of each nutrient you can use.

Dried Apricots 1 cup
Potassium 1500
Sodium 13
Potassium : Sodium. 116
For every 116 units of Potassium there are 13 units of Sodium.
Question: on the Nutrient Balance gauge, in the lower left there is a small circle with a zero, in the lower right there is a small circle with a is a 6.
The gauge itself is all the way to the right (on the sodium side)
What do the numbers in the small circles mean in this example? -
Hi Jes,
The numbers at the bottom of each nutrient balance are there to provide a scale for each balance. The scale for the potassium:sodium balance shows zero on the left and six on the right. The scale for the potassium:sodium balance shows zero on the left and six on the right.

Thank you Karen... I think I understand.
The numbers in the little circles are fixed.
The number inside the gauge changes as I make new entries? Is that correct?
Example Zinc and Copper has a fixed target nutrient balane of 0 Zinc 20 Copper, correct?
And today my zinc copper gauge is pointing right in the center of the green and the number reads 10.291 . So how does 0:20. Relate to 10.291? -
You got it Jes!

One last piece of the puzzle, How does the 0:20 Relate to the 10.291
-
Hi Jes,
The scale is to give you a reference point for each scale, visually. If the value of 10.291 was not listed in the middle, you could still take a look at the nutrient balance and see that your value was halfway between 0 and 20.
Best,

The piece of the puzzle that just made sense to me is that the way the dial is oriented is actually counter intuitive to what you need to do to balance it. I finally read the directions and it states that if the pointer is to the left on the Zinc : Copper then you need to add more zinc. Since zinc is listed on the left I thought I needed to add more copper to get it to move more to the right. Same thing with Omegas. I was trying to add more Omega 6 to get to the green area (since Omega 6 is listed on that side) when really I needed less 6 and/or more 3 to get to the target ratio. Also explains why I was so confused about the Potassium : Sodium considering the recommended amounts.

My question was similar and still waiting for an answer. For example on the calcium magnesium the arrow is not in the middle yet the individual % quotas were fulfilled for both calcium and magnesium. Looking forward to an answer.
