Difference in cup size measurements for various foods
Hi guys,
I was looking up the nutritional info of different whole grains, and I find that amount selected per cup serving of different grain types is not the same. For e.g.
Quinoa - 1 cup is 185 gram
Brown rice (medium grain) - 1 cup is 195 gram
Basmati rice (medium grain) - 1 cup is 196 gram
All the above are based on USDA data.
Any idea why these differences exist?

Yes, that's right! We recommend using weight as your measurement, as weight does not equal volume. The weight of a volumetric measurement depends on the density of the substance measured. It looks like in this case, Rice is simply a more dense grain than quinoa!
