Things weigh less after refrigeration, what to do?

Hi, I noticed my vegetable weighs less after I leave it in the refrigerator for a day. Do you guys weigh your stuff all at once before refrigeration and count it that way or how do you do it?

  • Refrigerators and freezers can act as dehumidifiers, drying out food that is not wrapped in plastic or in sealed containers. This loss of water is probably what is causing food to weigh less after it is in the refrigerator for a day.

The values in nutrient databases are not exact: they are averages, or manufacturer minimums, and vary based on the types of ingredients used. As such, you have to expect some margin for inaccuracy. However, although we will not have better than approximations, over time the values should average out.
