What exactly is "% Omega-6 (LA)" Nutrient Balance?

All other nutrient balances are ratios and there are two components. But this one is a percentage and it doesn't say what is a percentage of what. How is this calculation done? Thanks.

  • It looks like it's calories from Omega-6 as a percentage of total calories consumed.

    Here's how I backed into it using my data from so far today:

    Total Calories Consumed........707 (calories)

    Grams of Omega-6...................2.1 (grams)

    Calories from Omega-6............2.1 grams Omega-6
    ...............................................x 9 calories per gram
    ............................................= 18.9 (calories from Omega-6)

    Omega-6 % of total................18.9 (calories from Omega-6)
    .....divided by...total day..........707 (calories)
    .............................................= 2.67%

    18.9 Calories as a percentage of 707 total = approximately 2.67%

    *707 is low because I haven't finished the day yet.

  • @MrC, thanks. Math certainly checks out. I verified with few days with high and low Omega-6.
    Given that that gauge is greenest when the number is 0, it is almost as if it is suggesting to ingest 0g omega 6.
