how to increase body water levels?

I have looked around and not found this question or similar ever asked before, does this mean I am the only one who cannot increase their body water percentage no matter what?

I have been increasing my daily water intake as my body water percentage is around 40% and I read everywhere that it should be - over 50 woman - between 45 and 60%...

I eat a lot of vegetables, drink around 1l to 1.5l per day, only drink coffee in the morning, have increased fruit, try to eat 2 oranges or 2 kiwis or 100g grapes per day... but that percentage is simply not budging!

As I have read somewhere that being dehydrated can cause sleepiness, dry skin, lack of energy - all stuff that I experience - I feel that increasing body water should help ease these symptoms at least a little. Admittedly, I have put on a lot of weight in the past 10 years for a number of reason, but after a change of jobs recently, I have taken myself in hand again and am beginning to lose weight, so I am feeling a little better, but if increasing body water can add to this that'd be great. This being said, even younger and within a healthy weight range, my body water percentage has never ever been more than 40%.

Does anyone have suggestions or knowledge / understanding they would share and help me understand things a little better?

Thanks for any help or advice.

  • Has your doctor told you to worry about this?
It seems like something you shouldn't have to obsess over.

  • I am not obsessing, simply stating that, since every medical source says that being dehydrated - even by a small amount - can lead to experience all the symptoms I suffer from (tiredness, sleepiness, dry skin etc...) I would like to try and increase my hydration in the first instance and see if things improve....

    Thanks for your answer though

Since you have symptoms of dehydration, have you considered drinking more than the 1l to 1.5l?

If I don't drink at least 2l of water (in addition to coffee) each day, I feed dehydrated (headache, tiredness, dark urine). On a hot day I'll easily drink 3l and more.
