PlatformException(failed, Google fit import Failed, null, null)

When I try to connect to Google Fit under "Connect Apps & Devices", the button seems to "work" (in that it changes from saying "Connect" to "Disconnect", as if it were currently connected), but a red/orange bar appears at the bottom of the screen with the text:

PlatformException(failed, Google fit import Failed, null, null)

When I exit and re-enter the "Connect Apps & Devices", Google Fit looks disabled again. Is this a bug in some recent update of either Cronometer or Google Fit?

It seems like both apps were updated on my phone 7 days ago, but I only started experiencing the problem yesterday, maybe after I rebooted my phone. The first symptom was that my exercise yesterday was not being imported from Google Fit into Cronometer, so I thought I'd try to disconnect and reconnect, and that's when I started getting this error.
