Basic question re: barcodes

Long term MFP user and I'm trying out cronometer because I'm interested in seeing the extra micro-nutrient information.
I was adding some frozen spinach and wanted to scan the barcode but it said something like: "it's not in the database yet". So that means that anything that I scan that hasn't been added to the database, I actually can't log?
Frozen spinach is a generic thing so no big deal but what if it's something that isn't generic?

Thanks for the response Karen. I scanned a bunch of barcodes today with no issues so maybe the app just didn't like that particular brand of spinach!

Hi tiffb,
We have lots of generic versions of foods that will give you a comprehensive nutrient breakdown. For example, "Spinach, Cooked from Frozen" from NCCDB. Though these foods won't be associated with the barcodes on your brand name products. Instead of using the barcode scanner, first search for it by name to see if you can find something from NCCDB.
If there is a food that is missing from our database, you can create a custom food to add it to your diary. You can also send it through to our team and we will add it to our public database.
