Hi. What are some advantages to getting the Gold version versus the free version. I'm contemplating the Gold just to not have the annoying ads but I'm sure there must be other benefits.

Yes but it would be great to hear some gold subscribers explaining which features they find valuable and why.
I like being able to sort my foods into breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks (complete with sub totals) and I like that my Fitbit uploads into the Misc category. When I am low in a nutrient I like being able to 'ask the oracle' which foods are high in that specific nutrient. Not earth-shattering, but all the above are very nice to have.

I second all of the above...this site is exceptionally inexpensive for a tracking program with so much functionality...After paying much more for WW just for the tracking function and now finding something so inexpensive and yet so much more functional I almost feel like a fool for the money I was spending when I could have had so much more for so much less...I'm not sure the specific Gold functions vs. other functions because I sprung for the $5 bucks right away - but I would now be lost without it. The recipe function is great and the sorting of meals - copy paste - graphs - so much more are so appreciated. I also find they are very responsive to functions. One frustration was that if you changed a recipe it changed it in prior days in your diary - some people brought it up and there was a work around, but already this week I notice that when you save a new version of a recipe it gives you choices to apply backward or not - very useful and actually more choices than was originally requested. I will say I would gladly pay more and have said that on the boards before - so I say take the drive and as Galad said at the very least you are supporting the developers of such a great program.
BTW - I'm been using the program of 6.5 weeks and have lost 26.5 pounds with three travel weeks for work in there...I do zone and have struggled with tracking it in the past and with the program it's a breeze and keeps me in the "zone" so I'm averaging great and very consistent losses.
I've been using Gold for almost a year and it's been extremely valuable in so many ways. It helped me get off most of my vitamin supplements because it became easy to figure out which foods meet my nutritional requirements (through the Oracle function, where if you are low in, say, potassium you can easily get a list of foods that are high in potassium that you can then use to boost your stats, same for every other nutrient). By figuring out this way which foods are my personal superfoods (I'm a vegetarian) that I can eat every day.
I have shrunk my body mass index by choosing the "lose 5 lb a week option," gained a lot of energy and reduced my dependence on supplements (which are more expensive than food). I can also print out my nutritional records in a number of different formats (week, 2 weeks, month, year, etc.) and take them to my doctor or just save them in my own health records. I can also track my blood pressure and other vital signs and see the changes over time, which is useful for me because I have inherited high BP.
It's inspiring to see your trends in Gold. You can easily call up graphs of how much weight you lost, how your consumption of saturated fats (or other things) changed over time, etc. That was a real motivator for me to keep going with the program. ]You also see how much your exercise intersects with your consumption, and how many more calories you can eat over your baseline based on that day's exercise, without gaining weight.
I decided recently to try the Zone diet because although I'm at my ideal weight, I want to reduce fat intake which causes a lot of health problems. Cronometer Gold lets you choose from different diet plans (the Zone is 40/30/30 carbs/protein/fat) and if you choose one of the preset diet options, it automatically calculates the target percentage of carbs/fats/protein you can consume each day and you can see how you are doing in real-time as you input your food. That is an ingenious feature, I would have had trouble trying to do those calculations myself. You can also set your own parameters for carbs/protein/fat targets based on whatever diet you want to follow, and can reset it to another diet whenever you choose.
I guess what I'm saying is that the cost of Gold is minimal compared to the excellent value you receive, if you are prepared to take your health seriously. I love it and plan to renew my annual membership when it comes up (shortly). I recommend Chronometer to all of my friends who are complaining about their weight.
I like the Ask the Oracle and use that quite a bit to find foods for any nutrients I'm low in. You can tell it to just search certain foods, like only tell me how to get Vit C with vegetables. I don't use it every day but when I'm trying to figure things out I'm glad I have it. I used to pay month to month but I finally just paid for a year so I don't think about it now. It's just there. But at first I wasn't sure either so I just tried it for a month or 2.
I was overjoyed to find this wonderful program. However, having paid for gold I'm looking for all the various things I can track.. and unless I'm just not seeing it I don't see the potassium and phosphorous graphs to help with my kidney failure..
2. My program on a Samsung Galaxy 9 using Chrome does not scan bar codes any more. It did initially, then nothing. Is there a browser that it works better with?
