Energy Target Not Adhering to Custom Macros

Hi team!

I’m doing an 8 week challenge, and they’ve given me my required macro breakdowns.

I have input these into the Settings —> Macronutrient Settings, and confirmed it’s reflected in the Settings —> Energy Settings’ Custom Energy Target (which is selected), but the app is still using the Mifflin St. Jeor Equation.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Cheers,

Corey

  • Hi Corey,

Swipe the top diary banner to the left to view your custom energy target.

The energy burned and budget from your screenshot stills use your estimated energy burned to give you an idea of your energy balance.

  • Hi Karen,

That doesn’t really seem like a good design decision? If I’ve put in a Custom Energy target, why would it make sense to display a ‘Budget’ that’s not working off this custom figure?

Is there a way to make the second view, the one you mentioned to swipe to, the default view?

    Cheers,

    Corey

  • We wanted to have the option of viewing your energy balance as well as your custom target, rather than forcing users to choose one or the other.

Yes! The banner you last viewed will be the one you'll see next time you open the app.

  • Okie dokie I’ll roll with that in that case. Thanks!

  • Hi @Karen_Cronometer,

Another question on this one. I thought I’d use the way you guys had designed it, with the first view being energy balance with calories burnt and the second view being my custom targets. I thought it would give me the difference between what my custom target is and what I actually burned.

However, when I select “Include Exercise” in “Variable Calories Burned” it’s adding it to the second view as well as the first view, thus overriding the custom target I’ve put in on the second view.

Is it supposed to do this?

    Cheers,

    Corey

  • Yes. We're trying to give users flexible options for setting a custom energy target that remains static so you can track your exercise without it affecting your target, or setting a base target and adding exercise so you can see a target that varies based on your logged activity each day.

  • Well that’s unbelievably frustrating and kind of useless, because there is no way to see a total exercise (calories burnt) without selecting the option under Energy settings.

Can you add an option that excludes it from custom target view? I’m not really sure what situation someone would be in that wants to have a custom target (which would be larger than their BMR anyway) and then add exercise on top of that as well.

Even someone on a bulking meal plan (BMR + Exercise + +/- 500 calories) would find this unhelpful as they would be consuming way too many calories.

  • We'll look into adding some more fine-tuning to include/exclude exercise from your energy balance and energy target separately.

  • I would also like to see that option changed. I want to be able to set fixed energy/macro goals that don't change based on the day's exercise, but also be able to see an estimate of my calorie deficit/surplus that accounts for exercise.
