Re: 30% of calories from protein
@vinitapoojary Protein needs are very individual. Currently the Institute of Medicine recommends healthy adults aim for 0.8 g of protein per kg of ideal body weight per day (i.e. the weight that puts your body mass index in the "normal" range). Many people argue that this level is too low but we don't have enough data… -
Re: Why am I gaining weight instead of losing it?
One site I really like that is free is: https://trendweight.com You just need either a Withings Scale or a Fitbit account, which you can register for free even without a Fitbit device. I personally have a WeightGuru scale that syncs to Fitbit, which the app can then pull from. It creates a "trend" using an algorithm, and… -
Re: How to gain healthy weight?
I @garry First off, I always want to mention that humans come in all shapes and sizes and the weight you are may be the ideal weight for health. That said, here are my practical recommendations for safe weight gain... Just like weight loss, weight gain should be slow (~1-2 lbs per week). From your "maintenance"… -
Display Barcode Number\UPC in Food displays (Desktop Web Browser)
Many foods, even from the same vendor, have very similar or even identical names. They do not always match the exact label (poor curation someplace). As an example, I use Wegmans Organic Coconut Oil, Refined. UPC 77890 37699. The database (FDC Branded) shows this as Wegmans, Refined Coconut Oil missing the word Organic,… -

Hello I hope you are well. I am compiling nutrition information for my personal information as time goes to help me make nutrition planning decisions. For example, I have started conducting a list per category of food where I enter each food in grams to get exactly 100 calories. This way, I understand a little bit more the… -
Re: So lost on the calorie budget.
Just stumbled on this. It's telling you that you are over your "goal", which seems to be set to 1045 calories per day. That's a pretty aggressive goal. I don't use the goal; If you're under 2043 you should lose weight. How fast you lose will depend on how much under your burn you are. A goal of only 1,000 calories a day… -
Re: Intermittent Fasting
The point of IF is to clear your glycogen stores, which is about 1000 calories. So it takes about 14 hours. So you need to fast for 16 hours to get any benefit. Once your stores are depleted, your body has to burn fat. You don't NECESSARILY have to consume fewer calories. You can easily eat 3 full meals in 8 hours. I'm… -
Re: Recipe net carbs vs. exploded recipe
@Lisa_O , @Aaron, @Frank This was something I noticed the first time I added an Atkins snack to my diary, the net carbs were a lot higher than what I had expected and I no longer had the original packaging to check. I ended up only eating 1/3 of the serving in order to keep my 40g. of carbs for the day. The next time I was… -
Re: What are suitable macro ratios for different age groups and different activity levels?
@Henry_98 Your macronutrients look great, but I'd probably encourage you to include more lysine rich foods in your diet, as this is considered the limiting amino acid on a vegan diet (meaning that your protein status could be comprised if you chronically lack lysine). Good sources include: * pulses * seitan * quinoa *…
