Re: surprise: kiwi fruit sungold contain B12; I am raw vegan without suppelements
@mike Calcium carbonate is slightly less absorbable than citrate, but it is still an acceptable source. And studies confirm that the bioavailability of calcium in plant milks are comparable to dairy milk. In contrast, calcium is actually more bioavailable from many plant sources (such as napa cabbage, okra, bok choy,… -
Re: Minimum calorie limits?
I’m a 5’4” woman using a smartwatch that syncs my daily activity, and once that daily activity is accounted for at the end of the day, my weight loss goal of 1 pound a week is totally fine and around 1200 calories. But what happens is that if I plan my food for the next day, Cronometer tells me I only have 850 calories to… -
Nutrients Best Obtained from Animal Foods!
Most people know that certain nutrients come almost exclusively from animal foods, like vitamin B12 and vitamin D3. But those aren't the only essential nutrients found exclusively or near-exclusively in animal foods. Other examples include co-enzyme vitamin B6, preformed vitamin A, preformed niacin, preformed… -
Vitamin/mineral deficiencies on a low-calorie diet
I tracked my food intake this past Tuesday. It was an oppressively hot day (96 degrees), so I didn't eat much - only 1511 calories! (Under the traditional 4/9/4 formula, I consumed 1580 calories.) While I did get enough fiber (44.9 grams), I was short on Vitamin K (45% of my target). If it hadn't been for my zinc… -
Re: Impact/consequences of slightly incorrect data
Just a couple points: 1. The data on packaged foods is not 100% accurate, so I wouldn't automatically assume that the label is right and the database is wrong. You can look up the rounding rules elsewhere, but they aren't as straightforward as you might assume. 2. Little of the data anywhere is 100% accurate for any single… -
Re: Fat and skinny
@Fatty_McGee1 I'm 12 years vegan and also happen to be a dietitian. I think I can help.... For you: Consider how much of your diet is processed vs. whole foods (i.e. whole grains, pulses, tofu, nuts, seeds, fruits, veg, etc.). I'd also take a look at frequency of eating at restaurants/buying prepared food, as well… -
Re: Phosphorus on Whole Food Plant Base (WFPB) nutrition
@iamthewalrus Thank you for the response. THIS IS SCARY!! I HOPE MORE USERS READ THIS. I bought a bag of "Raw Brazil Nuts " ( product of Bolivia, packed by Tom & Glasser Los Angeles, CA 90021, no junk chemicals, nor Monsanto poison added ) with the express intention of boosting my Se intake. I have been taking 1/2 a nut (… -
Re: If I’m tracking activity in Apple Health and have it synced to Cronometer, am I double counting base
@williamraj if you are importing general activity from Apple health, you should set your activity to "None" On Cronometer to avoid double counting. We import the total day's BMR and Activity level at the beginning of the day in order to make diet planning a bit easier (No surprises at the end of the day!) Many activity… -
Greetings to all from a new member
Hello all, I just joined Cronometer and I think it's a great site! Just sharing to whoever might be suffering from insomnia. LOL At age 57 even though I see my doctor regularly I was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure. Usually my doctor would discuss with me the alternatives but this time he immediately put me on… -
Re: Change request: Calories remaining should reflect target calories
Hi jegmcg, I may have misunderstood what you are looking for. Here are some examples to illustrate what options you have to work with: In this example, I have a weight loss goal of 1 lb per week (-499 kcal) with the option to show weight goal in diary. The calories remaining = calories burned - calories consumed - weight…
