Distinguishing between folate and folic acid
Hello,
Is there a way when taking a look at total folate output to distinguish between folate and folic acid? As a nutrition student I am currently analysing a diet where the app returns a very high amount of folate (340% of UK Recommended Nutrient Intake) mostly coming from refined wheat products. I suspect this is because those refined products have been enriched with folic acid.
That said, the folic acid fortification of grain products is not mandatory in the UK. Is there a way to filter that out to reflect UK reality?
Thanks for your help,
Emily.

Hi Emily,
The folate values are total dietary folate equivalents and include both folate and folic acid. I'm afraid we don't have separate values listed for the two types. Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks Karen for your reply.

Actually, can I also ask you if folic acid counts for 1.7 DFE? Thank you

Yes, the DFE values do count for the higher availability of folic acid.
