Garmin Daily Activity is always zero

I'm not sure why but the daily activity that is displayed never seems to update (see photo). It always says zero or another incredibly low number even though I'm very active throughout the day. The attached photo was taken immediately after my second brisk walk of the day so shouldn't something show up? I'm trying very hard to stick to my calorie allotment but I feel like I'm starving myself since I'm not getting credit for all the walking around that I'm doing throughout the day. Any advice?
