Omega 6 : Omega 3 (again)

@Susan_RD_101

Hello Susan,

How beneficial is to supplement with therapeutic doses of omega 3 for individuals who are following a whole food plant base lifestyle, and who are already on low omega 6 intake (since this supplementation would offset the ideal 4:1 ratio of omega 6 to omega 3) ?

Is there a new 'plant base eating' interview? If so, how do I access it?

Thank you.

    Hi @mike

    I personally can't recommend therapeutic doses of omega 3 without medical monitoring involved. Supplementing with very high doses of DHA/EPA may be warranted in individuals with very high triglycerides. Most individuals eating plant based actually have quite low triglycerides, so not needed in this population.

    My conservative recommendation for DHA/EPA is to take 500 to 1000 mg per day. Higher than 2 g should involve medical monitoring.

    Let me know if this answers your question!
