Dry weight

Does the listed measurement of oatmeal (i.e. 1/2 cup) refer to the dry content or the cooked with water amount?

    Good question! The answer is...it depends.

    I would recommend using one of the options from NCCDB (the first two in the list below). "Oatmeal, Regular or Quick, Dry" is for dry oats, and the "Oatmeal, Regular Cooking" gives the nutrition information for prepared oatmeal.

    For brand name products, the manufacturer chooses whether to enter the values for dry or prepared oats. Check to see if it gives that information on the package, or you can compare with the NCCDB foods to see if the Calories match the dry or cooked version.
