Exercise and diet

Hi just wondering what to eat before and after gym. I am a 55 yr old woman. I have a lung condition but I am fairly fit. I do cardio and strength 2/3 times a week.
I am worried about muscle mass also even tho I am working very hard my leg muscles are poor. I love the diet and stick to it fairly well
Thanks martina

  • Hi Marti!

It's difficult to give specific recommendations, since everyone is so different. In general, you should aim to have a small snack before a workout if it has been longer than 3-4 hours. If you are doing cardio, opt for something that is low in fibre, fat, and protein, since these can all cause upset stomach. Some examples are oatmeal, a banana, or a small smoothie. After a workout, focus on hydration and eat a snack that contains both carbohydrates and protein. An example could be plant or Greek yogurt with fruit, a slice of whole grain toast with nut butter, or a smoothie with added protein.
