How do I download my recipes?

Please tell me that this feature is implemented and that I am just too dumb to find it....

I have an immense amount of time invested in entering my recipes and they are without a doubt the most important data I have on this site, yet I see no way to back it up to my PC, much less in a format that allows me to deal with the files here.

Thanks in advance -- Joe

  • You can export a recipe by selecting the Gear icon in the top right corner of the recipe editor screen on your web version of Cronometer. You can select "Export to CSV File" and add all your recipes to an excel document for safekeeping.
If you are looking to save your recipes for re-upload to Cronometer in the event that you wish to create a new account, you can export them as JSON files to your computer for safe-keeping.
To re-enter a JSON file in to Cronometer as a new recipe, select "Create New Recipe", then select the same gear icon as noted above to select "Import from JSON file". Cronometer will import your data. Then select "Save Recipe".

Thanks. I will have to look. Not very intuitive is it?

  • Thanks but I have seen that for months. It's an absolutely useless feature for backups.

I want to backup ALL of my recipes from time to time and not miss a single one EVER.
I am an It guy and I know what happens when you don't back up.

Manually keeping track of 100 or more recipes and DL one hundred times every single time I want a backup is insane and useless as far as "backups" go. You will miss ones and it will take a few hours each and every time.

Why the heck were not "real" backups part of the original software concept? Really bad judgment by someone. The way things are I stand to lose 100 hours of my time....

  • I would also like a way to import or enter my favourite recipes. I used another tracker for over a year, and I was able to input recipes, either manually or by copying a URL to a blog recipe, which I was then able to tweak according to the foods in the database. I would love to see the same feature here, as I much prefer Cronometer, for the ability to track net carbs, see my targets visually and to scan food labels.

  • I agree, entering recipes is another weak point in CM. But I would rather the export issue be solved first. As they do me no good if I can not back them up to my PC and use them independently of CM

  • Hello @caradee

Thank you for your feedback. You can manually enter your own custom recipes into Cronometer in the Foods tab.

There is a handy video on our youtube channel:
