  • Aren't humans omnivores? Shouldn't evolution have made many of us able to handle milk, eggs, meat and insects?

    Pillage, then burn.

  • Thanks @vegan_af ! Also, love your username. ;)

  • Let’s start with a little story: It’s 12 years ago, and I’m at a sushi restaurant interviewing a candidate for an assistant editor position at the magazine I worked for. The edamame comes, and the applicant takes a pod from the bowl and puts it a third of the way in her mouth (as one does to extract the first soybean). And then, with the pod still in her mouth, one of the other soybeans flies out of the side of its casing and lands three feet from the table. From there, it rolls for another, oh, five feet across the floor.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed the video interview. I am new to eating a whole foods plant based diet so this really helped. thanks.

  • Awesome Susan! Thanks for spreading the word about WFPB eating. I wish I would have heard it sooner. It took me so long to get over the idea that we're omnivores and that we need meat for protein but I finally made the leap 4 years ago and I've never felt better! I'm 41 and in much better shape than I was when I was 25, largely thanks to eating an entirely plant based diet.

  • @aarongo

So happy to hear that you're thriving on your WFPB diet! Be sure to post any comments, tips, suggestions in the forums so that others can benefit from your experience! :)

  • Hi all i have recently become vegan and have read so many dos and don'ts getting myself a little confused.

Is mock meat ok on a vegan diet?

  • Chants, yes, as long as it contains no animal products... Some might disagree of it has undergone some tests to get approval by the FDA..

  • So, how "live" is this?

  • Just checked and I have lost 52 lbs in 80 days. Time has gone quickly.

  • SoutherGuy, congratulations, how much of a calorie deficit are you eating?

  • My weight loss has stalled, but, I can not complain... (100 pounds/2 years, 60 to go) Whole foods, plant based since 12/2018, sugar free since 05/2017 and recently salt and oil free. Salt being the hardest to quit. I lost 50 lbs doing Keto, but had medical issues.

  • Hi All!

This video is from 1.5 years ago - wow time flies! Feel free to ask any vegan questions you have in this thread.

@Chants - from a health standpoint, vegan meats are okay to eat every now and then. However, I encourage people follow a whole-foods, plant based diet about 80% of the time to lower their risk for chronic disease.

  • Thanks, Dr Pepper

My weight loss method is very simple - I eat one meal a day of around 800 to 900 calories. No snacks. I cook all of my own food and I am very precise with weighing both my food and myself. I also cycle pretty hard in thee hills and I never eat back exercise calories; in fact, I usually don't bother logging my exercise because the calorie calculations seem to be wildly inaccurate. I am a firm believer in eating simple whole foods that are extremely nutritious.

I use MFP and the scare-mongering about low calorie dieting is rampant. I have experienced absolutely no ill effects and my energy levels are great. I can tell the condition of my body by how my hill climbs are when out on my road bike. Many of the hills around where I ride are 17% and more.

I don't frequent weight loss forums normally because of the widespread keto/LCHF fad. I despair to think of all the harm caused by such dieting. I made an exception here on Cronometer because of the more vegan friendly atmosphere.

  • Haha, Keto, all it did for me was 50 lbs off and 8 stents (I followed Butter Bobs advice and made a few other bad choices) in. WFPB now and feeling much better...

  • Bob Harper? How many millions of people are being misled? Losing weight is not the sole criteria of dieting.

  • Butter Bob Briggs, look him up on youtube...

  • I no longer look at diets as a means just for losing weight, and have chosen a whole food plant based lifestyle, not to live longer, just healthier.

  • LOVE this thread! Health and weight loss are not the same thing and it's the former that I devote my practice too.
