Macronutrient Targets

What does it mean when one of my micronutrients is higher than 100%? Usually, my Net Carbs are over 100%.

  • Hi ernesto_carreras,

This % target is calculated using the minimum target you have for each of your nutrients.

    For example:
My vitamin C target is shown here (see your target by clicking on the target bar):

    I have eaten 171 mg vitamin C so far today; 171 mg / 75 mg x 100% = 228% of my target.

  • Thnks for the quick response. I still am unclear if that’s good or bad.

  • That depends on you @ernesto_carreras :) What are your health goals? Are you using the default nutrient targets or did you customize them for a particular diet plan?

The defaults use the Dietary Reference Intakes from the USDA. If you are using these targets, generally aim for 100% of your target to make sure you are getting enough of what you need. There may also be some discretionary calories to reach your energy target. In this case going over your macros is ok as long as you are keeping an eye on your energy target as well.

  • @ernesto_carreras

Just to add to what @Karen_Cronometer said, I wouldn't worry about exceeding nutrients unless you go over the "maximum" number (termed the upper limit). Not all nutrients have an upper limit; to find out if they do, click on the nutrient's name in your diary.

  • Once again, you have been great with the responses :) I have a custom setup for my Macros. Here is some info about me:

    • Age: 37 y/o
    • Male
    • 163 lbs
    • 5” 6’
    • Moderate exercise: lift weights and run (2-3 miles) at least 4-5 days a week
    • BMI score: 25 (considered overweight)

I want to get to 150 lbs., at least. According to Martin Berkhan's formula, my maximum muscular potential is 149 lbs. at 5% body fat. I have no desire to be 5% body fat though, so per the formula, if am at 156 lbs. = 10% body fat & 164 lbs. = 15% body fat.

  • These macronutrient values reflect my cutting calories of 1,991 calories per day, which is a 500 calorie per day deficit from my maintenance of 2,491 calories per day.

Lower Carb - Fat Loss (40/40/20)

    • 199g - protein
    • 88g - fats
    • 100g – carbs

How can I make sure I follow this with the app? I was able to set the 40/40/20 ratio but cannot see where I can modify the grams to ensure the grams are met.
I hope you can help me with this. Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards!

  • Hi Ernesto,

With Cronometer, you can set a custom macronutrient ratio or you can set fixed gram targets.

Learn about the macronutrient settings here:
    https://cronometer.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018362851

With fixed targets, your macronutrient targets remain the same each day. and you can customize your targets manually to set fixed gram amounts for each target.

To use these settings, navigate to the Settings tab and select Targets. In the Macronutrients section, choose Fixed Values from the drop-down menu
Enter your target values directly in the corresponding fields below
You can customize your micronutrient targets by scrolling down to the Nutrients section afterwards.
