Food suggestions for specific nutrient

I searched the forum for this, but there were no results: I'm new to cronometer mobile app. How can get oracle food suggestions that target, or are high in, a specific nutrient, e.g. calcium? I already have it set to filter for vegan only and that seems to be working, but even though my calcium intake this far today is low, it's not returning any food suggestions to address that.

I'll let @Karen_Cronometer answer the logistical side of this question and tackle the nutritional aspect.

On a vegan diet, I tend to side with UK guidelines and suggest that a minimum of 700 mg of calcium (rather than 1000 mg) is likely adequate for most adults between 19-50 years.

To meet this on a vegan diet, you will likely need to include 1 cup of plant milk per day, plus high calcium foods like tofu, tempeh, tahini, blackstrap molasses, almond butter, turtle beans, kale, broccoli, napa cabbage, etc.

    Hope this helps!

  • Hi forsea66,

The Food Suggestions feature tries to suggest foods that help you meet your remaining targets for the day. It first aims for your macronutrient targets, then targets your micronutrients. It does not include a feature to target a specific nutrient though.

Instead, I would recommend using the 'Ask the Oracle' feature in the Foods tab. You can search for foods that are high in a specific nutrient to get more ideas on ways to help you reach your targets. You can limit your search results to specific categories as well to help you find sources that are more convenient for you.

  • Why does it tell me I need to eat lamb heart every time I ask for a suggestion of food. Not the easiest thing to find and I have a 100 sheep I raise for food?

  • Hi LC_1962,

It sounds like Lamb Heart is a good source of the nutrients you tend to be missing when you are using the Food Suggestions feature. Cronometer will show 5 results at a time, so you can quickly see some other options.

If you don't have a lamb heart handy to round out your nutrition for the day, click the X on the right to remove this option from your list of results and replace it with another option.

If you don't want to see this food suggested as often, click the thumbs down button to rate this food lower for future recommendations.
