Using Conometer for Nutrition
Hello!
I'm super new here and was wondering how many people use the site to primarily track nutrition. I've used other apps where the focus is overwhelmingly weight loss - even within some of the specialized groups. I think that's great, but it's a bit frustrating when you seek nutrition advice and are told not to worry about it
About me: cancer survivor, plant-based vegetarian (not vegan b/c medications, supplements, etc.) since 12 y.o., MD suggested eating meat to increase Fe, D, A, B-12 but I'd rather not.
Thanks!

Welcome to Cronometer! I'm the dietitian consultant here in the forums and am happy to provide answers to your nutrition questions. I also specialize in plant-based diets so can reassure you that you don't need to eat meat to get those nutrients, but it's important to include ample amounts of iron-rich plant foods like beans, lentils, soy, seitan, seeds, etc. You should be getting enough retinol (vitamin A) through beta carotene and sunshine or supplements are needed for vitamin D. B12 is a mandatory supplement for anyone eating a plant-based diet.
Be sure to check out the oracle for guidance in meeting your nutrient needs! https://forums.cronometer.com/discussion/306/new-feature-nutrient-oracle-food-suggestions

Thanks for this information! This. This is exactly why I want to switch over to Cronometer! None of the other apps have an Oracle. The only one that had something close (basically it let you set nutrient goals like "get within 85% RDA Vitamin A") shut down years ago.
Reading the post sparked a question, though. Does the Nutrient Oracle simply tell you that you're low in a certain nutrient, or will it recommend food sources to get you closer to your goal? Is the latter a function of the Food Oracle?
Thanks

@creativelychallenged there are actually 2 separate uses of different oracle features in Cronometer.
The nutrient oracle allows you to search for foods highest in a certain nutrient

The suggest foods feature (Found on the diary page) suggests foods to help meet your targets for the day.

Thank you @Hilary for your response.

I am absolutely in it for tracking my family's nutrition. Loosing weight will be great but in only 3 days I have been able to find some big holes in my nutritional profile which is the most important. I look forward to making meals that round this out and I thank Cronometer for helping me find them.
